This book takes place before Shay ever met Brownstone in the Unbelievable Mr. Brownstone Series. It encompasses her life from the time of her "death" as an paid killer, to her final development as a field archeologist, and her meeting with anticipated first meeting with Professor Smite-Williams, "Father O'Banion". It includes the development of the relationship between her and Peyton, and the four retrievals they did before she got into the big-time: the Nazi Pins in the Lake, The Lost Dutchman's Gold, the Oriceran Stone, and the retrieval of the Golden Owl.
